Customs broker in Sweden: we declare in your name, ready within 2 hours
A customs broker lodges your customs declaration with Swedish Customs in your name, under your power of attorney, so you can skip the systems, the commodity codes and the waiting at the border. EasyTull is a customs representative registered with Swedish Customs (Tullverket) and handles import, export and transit for companies across Sweden, and for private individuals importing or exporting on their own account. Send us the invoice and the declaration is ready within 2 hours. Call +46 31 755 77 76 or email info@easytull.com.
What is a customs broker?
A customs broker, or customs representative, is a company that lodges customs declarations with Swedish Customs in another person’s name. The broker must hold a power of attorney from you and be registered in the national customer register of Swedish Customs. A broker can lodge both import and export declarations, and can also take on the liability for paying duty and import VAT. In that case you pay duty, taxes and charges to the broker instead of to Swedish Customs. Source: Swedish Customs, the declarant’s responsibility (in Swedish).
Registration with Swedish Customs is free, valid until further notice and requires the broker to hold an EORI number
The broker prepares the declaration, but the importer or exporter is always responsible for the accuracy of the details
“PostNord is acting as customs broker for your parcel”
Have you received a letter or text message saying that PostNord, DHL or another carrier is acting as customs broker for a parcel you ordered? Then the fee is theirs, and the carrier is who you contact. We cannot change or remove their fee.
Importing or exporting yourself, as a company or a private individual, for example a car, a machine or household goods? Then we can help you.
Direct or indirect representation, and what the power of attorney means
Swedish Customs distinguishes between two forms of representation. Direct representation is the most common: the broker lodges the declaration in your name and appears as representative on the declaration, while you are the declarant and responsible for the details. Indirect representation means the broker lodges the declaration in its own name but on your behalf. The broker is then the declarant and, on imports, also the debtor for the duty, which requires the broker to hold a deferment account. EasyTull acts as direct representative in almost all cases, and as indirect representative only in the rare cases where the assignment requires it. You sign the power of attorney once, it is valid until further notice, and you can revoke it at any time.
Getting started: you sign the power of attorney digitally, we register you as a customer and check your EORI number. From then on you send us the invoice for each shipment, and we declare, pay the duty and VAT on your behalf if you wish, and file the declaration and all supporting documents in the customer portal, where you and your accountant can find them.
Direct

The broker declares in your name, you are the declarant. This is how we work.
Indirect

When do you need a customs broker?
The law does not require a broker. You may declare yourself with an EORI number and access to the e-services of Swedish Customs. In practice, most companies use a broker in these five situations.
Your first import from outside the EU
Goods from China, the USA, the United Kingdom or Turkey must be declared before release, and duty and VAT are calculated on a customs value you have rarely seen before. How an import declaration works.
Exports outside the EU, and the proof of export
Every shipment leaving the EU requires an export declaration, and without the proof of export the Swedish Tax Agency can charge Swedish VAT afterwards. How an export declaration works.
Trade with Norway
Norway is outside the customs union, so every shipment requires one declaration in Sweden and one in Norway. With Digitoll from 15 September 2026 the shipment must also be pre-notified. Exporting to Norway.
Goods that require permits or certificates
Food, animals and plants, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, dual-use items, sanctioned goods and anything that needs proof of origin for a lower duty rate. Mistakes here stop the goods.
When your own declaration has gone wrong
A post-clearance demand, a customs surcharge, a stop at the border or a broker who has stopped answering. We take over the case, correct it and apply for a review where possible.
What do we do as your customs broker, in practice?
You send the invoice and the transport booking. We do the rest, in your name, and you receive the declaration, the customs invoice and the supporting documents in the customer portal.
Import declarations
Customs value, commodity code, origin and every detail Swedish Customs requires, ready within 2 hours after complete documents. Read about import declarations
Export declarations and proof of export

Transit
T1 and T2 for goods moving through several countries without being cleared along the way. Read about transit (in Swedish)
Commodity code and customs value
The right code from the customs tariff for every line item, with the evidence to support it, and a customs value that holds up at an audit. Read about classification (in Swedish)
Origin and certificates
Statements on origin, EUR.1, A.TR and REX, so that you or your customer pay zero duty when the agreement allows it. Read about proof of origin (in Swedish)
Authorisations, customs audits and reviews
EORI and authorisation applications, answers to questions from Swedish Customs, support during a customs audit and reviews of past declarations.
Norway at the same time. Our Norwegian company EasyToll handles the import on the other side of the border, so a shipment to or from Norway becomes a single case with a single point of contact.
Who are you? This is how we help you
A customs broker looks different depending on what you need. Most of our customers are one of these three, and private individuals importing or exporting on their own account are the fourth.
IMPORTER OR EXPORTER
You buy or sell goods outside the EU
A few shipments a month or several a day. We declare every shipment within 2 hours, monitor duty rates and rules for your commodity codes and file everything in the customer portal. One fixed price per declaration, no lock-in.
E-COMMERCE
You sell to customers in Norway, the United Kingdom or Switzerland
Many small shipments, returns and VAT in the destination country. We set up a flow with export declaration, import on the other side and returns handling, so your customer is not met by a charge at the door.
FREIGHT FORWARDER OR CARRIER
You want to outsource customs to someone who answers
Your truck should be moving, not standing at Svinesund. We take the declarations for your customers as sub-representative, with replies within 10 minutes every day from 07:00 to 23:00, and you keep the customer relationship.
Private individual? We help you too
Importing a car, a boat, a machine or household goods, or exporting something you have sold outside the EU? On imports you can declare with your personal identity number; on exports you need an EORI number in practice, and we arrange both. If you have only received a charge for a parcel you ordered, the carrier is who you turn to.
customs broker customs agent customs representative direct representation indirect representation customs clearance agent customs declaration service help with customs declarationsHow to choose a customs broker: six things to check
You give the broker a power of attorney to declare in your name, and you remain responsible for the details. Check these six things before you sign.
Is the broker registered with Swedish Customs?
Ask for the registration in the national customer register and the EORI number. A broker that is not registered may not lodge declarations in your name.
What do they promise on response time, and what happens if they miss it?
A truck at the border does not wait until Monday. Ask for a response time with a consequence, and check what happens if the broker misses it.
Do you get access to your declarations?
The declarations, customs invoices and proofs of export are yours, available when Swedish Customs or the Tax Agency asks: customs records kept for at least five years, and the proof of export for seven as accounting records. We file everything in the customer portal.
Can they handle both sides of the border?
In trade with Norway, the errors arise in the gap between the Swedish export and the Norwegian import. A broker with a company on each side handles the whole chain.
Is the price fixed, with no lock-in?
One price per declaration, given in advance, with no set-up fee and no contract. Then you can switch if you are not satisfied.
Do you get one person who knows your flow?
The same contact every time, who knows your commodity codes and which permits apply. Not a queue.
What does a customs broker cost?
A customs broker charges a fee per declaration, at EasyTull a fixed price you receive in advance, with no lock-in. The price depends on the number of line items and whether the shipment needs certificates, permits or transit. Duty and VAT you pay as usual; the broker just calculates them correctly. The expensive part is mistakes: customs surcharges, goods standing still and duty you could have avoided with the right proof of origin.

Who may lodge customs declarations in Sweden? What it takes to do it yourself
An EORI number for companies, or a personal identity number for imports as a private individual. For exports, private individuals need an EORI number in practice
Access to the e-services of Swedish Customs: the authorised signatory appoints an access administrator who grants access
The correct commodity code for every line item, and evidence for the choice if Swedish Customs asks
The customs value calculated according to the rules, with freight and insurance up to the EU border
Knowledge of the rules of origin and which certificate gives a lower duty rate
Permits and restrictions for your goods, which change without notice
Payment of duty and VAT to Swedish Customs, or your own deferment account
Archiving of declarations and supporting documents for at least five years, powers of attorney for ten
Time when the goods are standing and waiting, including evenings and weekends
What you are responsible for, with or without a broker: Swedish Customs is clear that the importer or exporter is always responsible for the accuracy of the details in the declaration, even when a broker has lodged it. That is why the broker should show you what has been declared and keep the supporting documents. A broker who does not do that does not protect you at a customs audit.
Or give us the power of attorney.
Send the invoice, we do the rest: commodity code, customs value, origin, declaration and payment if you wish. Every declaration and document in the customer portal, the same contact every time.
The difference between a broker that declares and one that keeps watch
Filling in the declaration is the small part. The value of a customs broker lies in spotting the rule change before the order is placed, and in correcting what a previous broker missed.

SEK 131,000
refunded after a review
The customer’s previous broker had declared for two years without a statement on origin, so the customer paid full duty on goods of EU origin. When we took over, we applied to Swedish Customs for a review and the customer got the duty back. Read more about trade with the United Kingdom (in Swedish).
SEK 110,000
saved before the order was placed
When new anti-dumping rules for tyres came into force in July 2026, our customer was not aware of them. The import would have become unprofitable. We caught the rule change in time and the customer could re-plan. Read more about importing from China.

Questions and answers about customs brokers
Can’t find the answer? Ask us, and a customs specialist replies.
Ask your questionWhat is a customs broker?
A company that lodges customs declarations with Swedish Customs in another person’s name, under a power of attorney. The broker must be registered in the national customer register of Swedish Customs and can lodge both import and export declarations, as well as pay duty and VAT on your behalf.
Do I have to use a customs broker?
No. The law does not require a broker, and you can declare yourself with an EORI number and access to the e-services of Swedish Customs. Most companies still use a broker, because commodity codes, customs value, rules of origin and permits take time and knowledge, and mistakes cost more than the fee.
What is the difference between direct and indirect representation?
A direct representative lodges the declaration in your name and appears as representative on it, while you are the declarant. An indirect representative lodges the declaration in its own name on your behalf and becomes the declarant itself, and on imports also the debtor for the duty. Direct representation is the most common, and it is how EasyTull works in almost all cases.
How do I give a customs broker a power of attorney?
You sign a power of attorney giving the broker the right to declare in your name. With us this is done digitally, the power of attorney is valid until further notice and you can revoke it at any time. Swedish Customs requires the broker to hold it, but you do not need to submit it to Swedish Customs.
Am I responsible for the declaration even if a broker lodges it?
Yes. According to Swedish Customs, the importer or exporter is always responsible for the accuracy of the details in the declaration, even when a broker has lodged it. That is why we show you what has been declared and keep all supporting documents in the customer portal.
What does a customs broker cost?
A fee per declaration, at EasyTull a fixed price you receive in advance, with no lock-in or set-up fee. The price depends on the number of line items and whether the shipment needs certificates, permits or transit. Duty and VAT are added as usual.
How quickly can a customs broker prepare the declaration?
With us, within 2 hours after we have received complete documents, every day between 07:00 and 23:00. You get a reply to your enquiry within 10 minutes, or the declaration is on us.
Can I switch customs broker?
Yes, whenever you like. You give the new broker a power of attorney and revoke the previous one. Swedish Customs has no notice period. Earlier declarations remain valid, and errors in them can be reviewed for up to three years.
Do you help private individuals?
Yes, when you are importing or exporting yourself, for example a car, a boat, a machine or household goods. On imports you can declare with your personal identity number; on exports you need an EORI number in practice, which we arrange. If you have received a charge for a parcel you ordered, the carrier is who you turn to.
I have received a letter saying PostNord is the customs broker for my parcel. Can you help?
No. When PostNord, DHL or another carrier acts as customs broker for a parcel, the fee is theirs, and they are who you contact to ask about or dispute it. We cannot change a declaration lodged by another broker.
Can a Swedish customs broker help with Norway?
Yes, if the broker also handles the Norwegian side. Every shipment to or from Norway requires one declaration in Sweden and one in Norway. We do both in the same case through our Norwegian company EasyToll, which is registered with the Norwegian Customs.
Which documents does the customs broker need from me?
The commercial or pro forma invoice, the packing list and the transport booking. For a lower duty rate also the proof of origin, and for certain goods permits or certificates. The first time also the power of attorney and your EORI number. If anything is missing, we tell you exactly what.
